A stroll in the woods, magical, like all those Enid Blyton books I read as a child.

A candy floss tree.. magic! well maybe not.. bursting with seeds really lovely.

The old cart wheel, if it could only talk and tell us its history!!

Lichen on a stone ditch gosh its beautiful!!!
The end of May, such a heavy coat of flowers on the whitethorn, is said to be a sign of a bad summer, I suppose we'll find out soon enough!

Well the time has really flown since I last updated here, been very busy, which is good...

I am currently creating a new body of work, which I may show here in time. In the meantime I will use this blog as a forum to show ideas, inspiration (from wherever it comes) by use of text, drawings and photographs.....

Well the Boyle arts festival has passed and as usual, it was smashing. The "Touch" exhibition had many visitors/viewers. It was great to see so many people I know, I met some old friends and made some new ones. Thank you to all the Castleboyle artists who exhibited in "Touch" it was great seeing you all and your beautiful works of art. Special thanks to Veronica for all her hard work and to Feelystone, Boyle for providing us with such a great space to exhibit.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

This latest work was completed over the past month, it is based on fungi in relation to my locality. I have looked at the conditions that cause fungi to thrive especially in my local environment. The result has been work which is both abstract and figurative. Weather, rain, damp, light or darkness are especially key in the growth of fungi. These works are taking all these things into consideration.

Well, above are the latest works done in relief plaster. The surface patterns are raised from the background (relief). With all of the works I have added shapes and colours which are personal to me as well as keeping in with the theme "fungi."

During the next week I hope to explore other connections to fungi, which will take me in another direction. This will change the work substantially and the mediums (paint, plaster, charcoal etc;) I use will possibly change too. I use different media to reflect the sensitivity of the subject, for example if shape is important to me I may use plaster to emphasise this. I use whichever media that works best for expression in the subject I am working on.

Above are my latest works, in acrylic paint. Over the next weeks I plan to work with plaster to create relief works, which will be tactile and possibly include personal references. So all I can add is "Lets see what happens".....

Above are four works based on texture and still on the theme of fungi. I have used colour, shape and materials which emphasise texture in both an abstract (No. 1 & 3) and figurative (No. 2 & 4) way. My plan for the next week is to begin to make the works more personal . This will most probably change the art work considerably.

This week I have worked with acrylic paint on various patterns of fungi. In the first two paintings above, I have combined patterns to create something new. I have also composed the images to create an abstract style painting. In the week ahead I hope to work with mixed media to create textural works.

I have explored the patterns and shapes of fungi, from species in Ireland to the rainforests. Above are some of the sketches using chalks and charcoal. I will add colour and may possibly change materials in my next works. I am very interested in the work of Terry Winters see here

I hope to take you on a journey with me, which will show you my process of producing works of art. I produce art work which begins with natural objects and develops through to what I hope are personal and beautiful works of art. This work will be based on fungi (as in mushrooms and mould), I will reasearch this thoroughly and produce drawings or paintings as studies. I may start with fungi but, I do not know where it will take me, so I may end up producing work extremely different to my starting point. I will update this site every wednesday (I hope).
